What are the causes of acne?

Here we show you some of the different types of acne and their causes.

Acne is a skin problem that many people suffer with. It can appear on many places on the body and it is often found on the face, back, neck and chest. Although teenagers often suffer with acne, it can affect people of any age.

Many acne sufferers are searching for the answer to treating acne. The best way to find an acne treatment is to ascertain the cause of acne. The most common causes of acne are detailed in this article; read on to find a solution to your acne problem.

Acne causes:

Hormones are one possible cause of acne. When your hormones are not balanced, it causes your oil glands to make excess oil. This then blocks pores and causes acne.

This is why acne is more common in teenagers who are going through hormonal changes. Unfortunately it is not possible to correctly identify a hormone imbalance without going to see your doctor.

Stress:

Stress is another one of the causes of acne. High stress levels cause your body to produce more hormones. They then irritate the skin and this can trigger off acne.

What you eat:

You are what you eat. So, what you consume can influence the causes of acne. Allergies to certain foods mean if you eat or drink them, flare ups of acne are sure to follow.

You can test this simply by eliminating things from your diet for four weeks, to see if your acne problems stop. This is going to take some time, it will take a few weeks to ensure your skin responds to it. You will definitely not see results quickly, in a few days.

Tight fitting clothing:

Tight fitting clothing can cause acne. Man-made fibers do not allow the skin to breathe and when they are tight they can irritate the skin. Then your pores become clogged, and this is what causes acne.

Medications:

Some medications can cause acne. There are prescription medications which are known to trigger acne.

If you do think your medication is triggering your acne breakouts, then you must check with your doctor before changing your medication. They might be able to help with the acne, or be able to adjust your medication.

Pollution:

The environment that you live in is a potential cause of acne. When you live in an area with a great deal of pollution, such as in a city, the dirt and debris in the air can settle on your skin.

If you do experience this, you will need to wash your face a little more frequently. Heat and humidity in the environment can also cause acne. If the weather where you live causes you to sweat a lot, this can clog pores and cause acne.

Makeup:

Even something as innocuous as makeup can cause acne. Some makeup contains harsh chemicals. They can block your pores, clog them up and trigger acne. Try switching your makeup or making a conscious effort to wear less, and see if there is an improvement in your skin.

Hereditary:

Sadly, the fact is acne is hereditary. If your acne is a hereditary thing, you will still be able to treat it. But it will be hard to totally keep it away. Your doctor would be a good person to speak to, they may be able to help with some good advice, or even prescribe something.

There are clearly many different causes of acne. When you can conclude what causes your particular acne, you will be more likely to find a great treatment that suits your skin. You can use the information in this article to see if you can see what is causing your acne, and then you will have a good way of treating it.

What is acne?

Acne is a skin disorder which bombards a large percentage of people from adolescents to adults. No wonder there are also innumerable treatment options in order to remedy this skin disorder. The first way of determining the best cure is through knowing the mainΒ causes of acne.

Why do I get acne?

There are actually four major underlying factors deemed responsible for the proliferation and breakout of acne.

These causes act together leading to the breakout of acne and the eventual destruction of your once supple and healthy skin. Some of the most common acne types resulting from such causes include pimples and pimple inside nose, blackheads and whiteheads among others.

Sebaceous Glands:

The first of the many causes of acne breakout is overactive oil glands that eventually lead to the overproduction of skin oil. Oil glands are also known as sebaceous glands which are situated deep beneath the skin. Oil glands basically produce sebum and these skin organs likewise vary in size with larger ones located at the back.

The produced skin oil is supposedly secreted from the body through the opening of the skin called skin pore. However during the puberty stage, pregnancy and when you are all stressed, increased levels of hormone is produced making the oil glands overactive due to hormonal surge. The overproduction of skin oil from overactive oil glands is basically one of the causes of acne.

Acne breakout is triggered due to the blockage or clogging of the skin pore. The overproduction of the sebum or skin oil due to overactive oil glands is not the only reason or cause of the proliferation of acne. When skin oil is excessively produced and it is trapped or blocked within the skin pores, acne-causing bacteria populate which cause acne growth.

Propionibacterium acne:

The growth of skin bacteria known as Propionibacterium acne or P. acnes is one of the causes of acne everywhere. This bacterium in the skin is normal however when it starts to buildup and get clogged in the skin pore, it becomes very harmful. The bacteria eventually produce chemicals that irritate the skin and become inflamed pimples or zits.

Skin inflammation is another underlying factor that contributes to the proliferation of acne outbreaks. Redness, discomfort, swelling and burning sensation is just few of the different manifestations of inflammation.

In acne cases, this inflammation of the skin is caused by the bacteria and the compounds it releases that irritate the skin. When the skin pore is blocked, it bulges outward and forms pimples, whiteheads or blackheads, nodules and cysts.

Having in-depth knowledge about the many causes of acne is the first step towards determining the most effective and best treatment for acne breakouts. This also gives you the edge to know what to avoid and what to do for acne cure.
