I have acne on my forehead

Forehead is the worst place to have acne, after nose of course. Acne on my forehead is visible to everyone unless you have fringes or bangs. Acne on the face can be due to numerous reasons. In fact, acne on different areas of your face has different causes and remedies. For example, acne on cheeks can be because of your bad eating habits or a silly reason like dirty mobile phone. Acne between the eyebrows could be because of high-fat diet, processed food or alcohol. There is a reason doctors recommend consuming green leafy vegetables and avoiding beverages and processed foods. These items get into your body and damage the body on the inside which affects your appearance.

Before diving into how to get rid of forehead acne, let’s look at what causes the acne on my forehead itself. To give you a quick overview, it could be caused by stress, a bad diet, digestive problems or liver issues. These are very broad terms. Let’s look at some of the specific causes.

Forehead Acne Causes:

1) Oily Scalp

Your scalp homes sebaceous glands that are responsible for the production of excess sebum which travel the hair shaft and cause your scalp to be oily. In case of oily scalps, the pores in your forehead tend to absorb the oil and become clogged which causes acne on your forehead.

What to do?

It may come as a surprise but use less shampoo to treat oily scalp. When you use shampoo, it removes oil from your hair and your body starts producing excess sebum to make up for the lost oil. Instead wash your hair every other day with plain water.

2) Dandruff

Dandruff Causes Forehead Acne

Dandruff has to be the most frustrating condition with it comes to scalp. Dry skin falls off, it itches, it gets oily and it feels absolutely disgusting. If I have dandruff and acne on my forehead, then that could be the fault of causing acne.

What to do?

Using an anti-dandruff shampoo would help you be dandruff free. Nizoral shampoo is a famous anti-dandruff shampoo but I would advise you to not use it as it makes your scalp really dry which would promote production of excess sebum which is one of the reasons of acne on my forehead.

3) Medications

Certain medications can have acne as a side effect. Some people use DHEA supplements for building muscles, fighting the effects of aging and improve their sex drive. DHEA medication is known to cause acne. Some people experience pimples on the forehead because of birth control pills.

What to do?

Consult your doctor before taking any new medication and if the doctor is himself prescribing you some medication, talk to him about your acne condition.

4) Digestive Problems

Your skin reflects what you eat. Digestive problem is one of the major causes of many skin related conditions.

What to do?

Eat a healthy balanced diet full of vitamins and minerals. Avoid consuming processed and junk food. Some people think taking a multi-vitamin would offset the effects of junk food. Sorry to burst your bubble, but that is not the case. Also, make sure to drink lots of water every few hours throught out the day. Water should be the first thing that you consume when you wake up. Consume green leafy vegetables, fruits and avoid fried foods like a plague.

5) Stress

Stress causes forehead acne

If you think that people are being silly when they say that stress is the cause of your skin problems then well, you are wrong. Stress affects our bodies in some way or the other.

What to do?

Practice Yoga and/or meditation. Make it a habit. But if you don’t have time to sit at a place and achieve inner peace then indulge yourself in a relaxing spa and watch the stress leave your mind. It’s not necessary to do ‘relaxing’ things to get rid of stress. If boxing helps you relieve stress then you should definitely do that.

6) Hair Products and Cosmetics

Certain types of cosmetics and hair products including hair sprays, serum, hair protectants, etc. can induce forehead acne.

What to do?

If it’s necessary to use hair products and/or cosmetics then only do so. Otherwise, use them in moderation. Also go for natural herbal products that do not contain any harmful chemicals.

7) Helmets and Caps

With helmets and caps being used daily, we tend not to clean them like we clean our clothes. They collect dirt over time and trigger acne on forehead.

What to do?

Make sure you cover your head with a cloth before putting on a helmet. The cloth should be cleaned every couple of days, obviously.

8) Hormonal Causes

Acne on my forehead can be caused by hormonal imbalance or other factors that are genetic in nature.
